Happy July! Summer is speeding along at breakneck speed and, I am sure you will all agree with me when I say that there is a decidedly different buzz in the air. I’m a bike commuter, and am regularly reminded of the buzz as I ride home after a day in the office. My route takes me through Stanley Park, where I love over-hearing all the different languages visitors speak. It leaves me with a smile and a validating confirmation that visitors are indeed back. And not just in the Lower Mainland but in every corner of the province.
Over the past months, we’ve commemorated a few key milestones that I’d like to share with you.
We were back onscreen for our 43rd AGM that go2HR hosted at the end of June. Thanks to all that joined!
The federal government recently announced the return of random testing of travelers at Canadian airports, including Vancouver's YVR. Ottawa had paused this requirement on June 11 and will be re-implementing this procedure on July 19, 2022. One change however, is that rather than testing at the airport as was done previously, testing will be done off-site. The justification for the return of testing is based on the resurgence of COVID-19 cases broadly.
The Government of Canada wants to hear from Canadian tourism stakeholders as it charts the path forward for the sector. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is conducting a public consultation on the development of a post-pandemic Federal Tourism Growth Strategy--including a focus on labour gaps and instability. The consultation period now ends on August 3, 2022.

We are honored that the Tourism Industry Association of BC (TIABC) and the BC Hotel Association(BCHA) have made Safer Spaces required training for all of their Board of Directors. We encourage others to follow this great example and embrace leadership actively learning more about what is, and what isn’t sexual harassment.
Did you know?
According to Stats Canada, over 25% of employees believe their employer doesn't provide them with enough information about sexual harassment in the workplace. Safer Spaces is a training course dedicated to raising awareness about this very topic and providing information on how to handle it.
go2HR is united in our commitment to reducing the stigma around workplace sexual harassment and a desire to champion the topic as an integral element of workplace education and training. Creating an industry-specific training course geared towards leadership is the first step towards increased awareness and furthering the shared goal of creating Safer Spaces, free from sexual harassment.
Increasing demand for products delivered directly to consumers has contributed to significant growth of courier and delivery services — and injuries to workers.
Delivery drivers face risks everywhere they go, and those risks can change from one delivery to the next. Assessing changing risks is crucial to staying safe. Our new videos build awareness of workplace hazards identified by and for delivery drivers. They show drivers how to size up a situation, spot hazards, and take steps to avoid harm when making routine deliveries.
The courier industry, which includes last mile and food delivery services, has grown rapidly since the beginning of the pandemic. With this industry growth, claims have increased by 30 percent over three years, primarily involving musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs). The shift in culture toward online buying, and the growth of the gig economy, are expected to continue post-pandemic. With increasing numbers of delivery drivers on the roads, often working under significant time pressure, it's more crucial than ever that drivers keep safety top of mind.
Do your part to prevent injuries while delivering!
