go2HR receives Government Funding to Revitalize BC Tourism
In response to the impact from Covid-19, the Canadian government created the Tourism Relief Fund to support tourism businesses in the Lower Mainland and safely welcome back visitors. At go2HR, we received some of the funding to create a comprehensive labor recovery framework addressing labor shortages, and promote the BC tourism sector as a career of choice. Paddle BC launched in October as a collaboration between paddling associations and tourism organizations in BC. The goal is to promote BC as a world-class paddling destination and to endorse the safety of this sport with help from local experts. Creating an accessible work environment is more possible thanks to Small Business BC. They are offering a Workplace Accessibility Grant to provide financial assistance for eligible small business employers in BC, and support them with creating an accessible work environment for persons with disabilities. Learn more as funding is on a first come, first serve and available until April 30, 2023.
According to go2HR’s Employment Tracker, October saw a slight downward trend in tourism and hospitality employment in BC. There was a decrease of employment of 3.5% from September to October. In October 2022, there were 341,740 jobs in the industry although September was slightly higher with employment at 354,000. The BC Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA BC) and go2HR have partnered to create an online portal for mental health and wellness resources specifically for the Tourism and Hospitality industry. The portal includes information and resources about mental health, access to training, coaching support and more. Workplace mental health has never been more important.
